Jack D. Pointer, 89, of Naples, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, with his beloved wife at his side.
He was born on Christmas Day 1925, to Clem J. Pointer and Mildred (Borgstrom) Pointer, in Ladysmith. He was raised in Chippewa Falls, where he graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1943.
Jack served in World War II with the 7th U.S. Army, 100th Infantry Division, in the European Theater. After returning home, he attended Ripon College, where he met his wife-to-be, Shirley (Behrens) Pointer. They were married at Fort Benning, Georgia, after graduation in 1951.
Jack then served as a first lieutenant with the 7th Cavalry Division in Japan and in the Korean Conflict. He was the recipient of the combat and expert infantryman badges, as well as the Bronze Star, for combat heroism. He was also awarded the French Legion of Honor in recent years by the French government. Jack served for many years as president of the Infantry Division Association of Florida.
He was employed by Wisconsin Power and Light Co. of Madison before retirement. In 1986, he and Shirley moved to Florida, where they completed 63 years of married life.
Jack was forever involved in a voluntary service to government agencies in Naples, where he served on the Collier County Planning Organization, and to the North Naples Fireman's Pension Board. He was recently honored by the firemen by their naming the newest fire station in his name.
He is survived by: his wife; and three sons and their wives, Jack D. (Patricia Watson) Pointer, Todd A. (Roberta Klinnner) Pointer and James G.
