Leslie "Les" Snyder, age 78, of Wheeler, passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Menomonie.
Les was born July 9, 1933, in the Township of Otter Creek to Eugene and Grace (Thomas) Snyder. He attended Colfax School. Les married Marlys Nygaard on Oct. 15, 1955.
In the 1950s, Les drove milk truck for Elmer Stene in Colfax and at the same time he worked in Wheeler at Nooney's Filling Station. Les owned and operated his own Mobil Station in Wheeler in the 1960s. He also farmed throughout the later years of the 60s.
Les was supervisor for many years and also served as town chairman for the town of Otter Creek up until 1999. He was a certified mechanic and worked in Menomonie for Menomin Motors, Northside Motors and Flick Motors.
There wasn't anything that he couldn't fix. He could never stay busy enough working out, so he had his own repair shop at home for many years, where he specialized in transmission work. Les was also an avid Packer fan.
Les is survived by his wife, Marlys; daughters, Vickie Caswell and Melissa (Tim) Flug; five grandchildren; two step-grandsons; six great-grandchildren;sister, Imogene (Jerry) Tuschl; sister-in-law, Beverly Snyder; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert; infant daughter, Susan; grandson, Eugene; brother, Donald; and sister, Vivian Kressin; and infant sister, Ester.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at Norton Lutheran Church in the Township of Tainter, Dunn County, with Pastor Bob Schoenknecht officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
