Mary K. Tilleson, 88, of Menomonie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Comforts of Home in Menomonie.
The former Mary Kathryn Schultz was born Oct. 22, 1926, in Menomonie, to William and Victoria (Hansen) Schultz. She grew up and lived in the Cedar Falls area her entire life and graduated from Menomonie High School.
On Sept. 25, 1946, Mary married Kenneth Tilleson at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie.
Mary worked in the kitchen at Cedar Falls Elementary School and later as an assistant librarian for the elementary schools in the Menomonie School District.
Mary loved to cook and enjoyed gardening, canning and baking bread. She was a sports fan, following her two sons and Menomonie High School sports for many years. She enjoyed reading, fishing, spending time outdoors and singing in the church choir at Peace Lutheran Church where she was an active member. Most importantly, Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ken; three children, Peggy Voigtschild of Appleton, Dennis (Joni) Tilleson of Loveland, Colo., and Cory (Judy) Tilleson of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Kent (Varsovia) Voigtschild of Tinley Park, Ill., Shawn (Richard) Einerson of Rochester, Minh., and Josh (Rebecca) Tilleson of West Palm Beach, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Keana Voigtschild of Tinely Park, Christian and Grayson Tilleson of West Palm Beach; step-grandchildren, Joel (Stephanie); great-grandchildren, Paige and Jael, Joycelyn (Adam); and great-grandchildren, Addison and Avery, Jordan (Kimberly) and great-grandchild, Trent; and a brother, Jerry (Barb) Schultz of Hungry Horse, Mont.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Victoria; son-in-law, Jerry Voigtschild; brothers, Harold and William Schultz; sisters, Fern Boyes, Viola Steinmeyer, Leota Tilleson and Joyce Hagen.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with Pastor Kristine Stedje officiating. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Cedar Falls Cemetery in the Town of Red Cedar, Dunn County. Olson Funeral Home of Menomonie is serving the family.
