GREEN BAY - Michael T. Bates, 53, of Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 2, 2008, in Riviera Maya, Mexico, while on vacation with his wife.
He was born in Chippewa Falls on Nov. 15, 1954, to the late William and Mildred (Ofstad) Bates. Michael was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from UW-Eau Claire with a degree in business.
On May 25, 1985, Michael married Cynthia Beckers in Green Bay. He was a longstanding member of the Green Bay Yacht Club. Meeting new friends was an adventure for him. He always took the time to learn about someone, seeing the best in others and treating everyone as a friend. Any day was a good day for Mike when surrounded by good friends and family. His perfect day though, would be filled with sunshine, warm light breezes and gentle waves on sparkling blue water. It might well include tinkering on a project with a friend, that was really more about the conversation and friendship, rather than the job at hand. Mike thought the world of his family and friends.
Survivors include: his wife, Cynthia J. Beckers-Bates; son, Nicholas A. Bates; step-mother, Verna E. Bates; mother-in-law, Betty J. Beckers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Marianne Beckers, James Beckers, David Beckers, Debra (Kevin) Tenpas; Amy (Donald) Kuhl; nieces and nephews, Robert Beckers, Brenda Beckers, Danielle Beckers, Andrew Ingold; and special family members Orlan and Barbara Ofstad.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; father-in-law, Robert J. Beckers; and godparents, Evelyn and Charles Reifenauer.
The family invites you to visit with us at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St., Green Bay on Sunday from noon until 3:30 p.m.
