Richard "Dick" Jacobs, 84, Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved wife Marion and all seven of his children.
He always called his home his heaven on earth. With his loving wife beside him, he was able to continue doing the things he loved despite dealing with his serious health issues.
He was born Feb. 3, 1929 in Green Bay, the son of Clyde and Rose (Janquart) Jacobs.
Dick joined the Navy his junior year of high school and was stationed in the South Pacific on the USS Shangri-La during World War II.
On Sept. 4, 1948, he married the love of his life, Marion Gleason, at St. Willebrod Church in Green Bay. Dick and Marion celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.
He attended college in Houghton, Mich., and then transferred to the Progressive School of Photography in New Haven, Conn.
Dick and Marion owned and operated Dick Jacobs Photography from 1964 until retiring in 1992. During this time Dick was awarded the most prestigious photography awards, the Hall of Fame and the National Award. He also received his Master of Photography & Craftsman degrees. He was a national qualified print judge and councilman for Wisconsin photography. He served as the president of both the Indianhead and Wisconsin professional photographers associations.
Dick was a lector and eucharistic minister at St. Charles Church. He was a member of the Chippewa Falls Rotary, Elks Club and St. Charles Church.
Dick enjoyed spending special times with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a man who had a tremendous amount of love to share with his family and friends, and faith in God. Whenever you would come to visit he would give the biggest hugs.
He loved boating, bike riding and listening to his favorite music. He could be seen driving up and down Lake Wissota in his houseboat. Dick and Marion spent many winters on their cabin cruiser at a marina in Palm Island Resort in Florida. They have spent much of their retirement years traveling with friends doing bus tours.
Dick is survived by: his wife, Marion; two sons, James (Linda) of Eau Claire and David (Donna) of Hudson; five daughters, Susan Shafer of Chetek, Carol (Patrick) Clifton, Judy (James) Hakes and Lynn (Dean) Boos, all of Chippewa Falls, and Pamela (Robert) Kortbein of Eau Claire; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by: one son-in-law, William Shafer; his parents; and two sisters, Shirley Herfort and Joanne Bennett.

Dear Jacobs family,
I remember Mr. Jacobs as a faithful member of the parish and a true artist with his photography. I celebrated a Mass for him at the chapel of the hospital in La Crosse. I wish you a blessed Christmas and New Year.

Marion and family,
I had the pleasure of being a member of Rotary with Dick and enjoyed his company for the many years he was a member. Now Pat has taken that charge. Pam and I have many memories of times with Dick and Marion as they did pictures for the Kell family. Our prayers are with the family.

So sorry for your loss. I remember getting my senior picture taken (twice) at the studio on Bay Street. I think Dick took 99% of all of the senior pictures in Chippewa from the time you all came to town, along with wedding photos. Everyone trusted him.
Dick will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Prayers for peace to all of you.
