Ruby Rowell Johnson, 94, of Eau Claire, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, at Dove Healthcare, where she resided for the last two years of her life.
Ruby was born on Sept. 6, 1917, to Henry A. and Bertha (Roggow) Dreke, in the town of Brunswick, where she spent her childhood years.
Ruby married Damon Rowell on Sept. 17, 1938. He died on Jan. 8, 1967.
She married Maurice "Mully" Johnson in 1975, and they resided in Eau Claire. Maurice died in 1985.
Ruby was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since childhood. She was also active in the Antique Club, Chippewa Valley Tech Homemakers and Women of Our Redeemer. She made quilts for missions, and was a volunteer for 30 years in the church library.
Ruby was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose passion was cooking, baking and taking care of all of her family. She will be remembered for her kindness that she always showed to everyone and her beautiful smile that could light up a room.
Ruby is survived by her four children, Richard (Lanee) Rowell of Menomonie, Dennis (Eileen) Rowell of Eau Claire, Sue (John) Haug of Rhinelander and Debra (Jim) Willger of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren, Steve (Lana) Rowell, Teresa (Tom) Walker, Cory (Nicole) Rowell, Tony (Lori) Haug, Kristine Haug, Matthew Haug, Jason (Samantha) Haug, Damon Rowell, Kim (Michael) Craig, Nichole (Mike) Kircher, Nathan Willger and Christopher (Sarah) Willger; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers, Frederick, Henry, William, Edward, Leonard "Peanuts" Walter, George, Albert and Elmer Dreke; and six sisters, Lottie Ziemer, Agnes Woods, Alvina Welke, Ida Bartel, Mary Johnson and Frieda Dreke.
She will be missed by all who knew her. You are our angel, Mom. We love you!
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 601 Fall St. in Eau Claire with Pastor Carlton Kangas officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home, 814 First Ave. in Eau Claire, and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
