Russell J. Rassbach, age 83, of Menomonie, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Country Terrace in Menomonie with hospice care.
Russell was born Feb. 7, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn., and was raised by his loving grandparents, John and Jennie Rassbach of Connorsville. Russell attended Oak Lawn School and went on to graduate from the Dunn County School of Agriculture in Menomonie.
Russell was self-employed most of his life. His latest venture was owner of Rassbach's Furniture in Menomonie. Since 1983, he spent his winters in Florida and summers in Menomonie until his health made traveling difficult.
Russell enjoyed fishing, traveling in his motor home, and biking. Summers would find him riding his John Deere mower and doing yard work.
Russell was a major contributor to the Dunn County Historical Society with a generous donation going to the Russell J. Rassbach Museum. He also gave generously to the Mabel Tainter Theater as well as to other worthwhile organizations.
Russell is survived by his wife, Rachel (Granger) of El Cajon, Calif.; two daughters, Margie Stroud o San Diego, Calif., and Dianne (Dean) Hussey of Alpine, Calif.; one son, Kelly (Barb) Rassbach of Menomonie; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jennie Losness of Ridgeland; and a nephew, Anthony (Bonnie) Andrise of Hernando, Miss.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Jennie Rassbach.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with the Rev. Steve Crites officiating. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery in Downing.
Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
