Larry Cowell Obituary

Larry Jerome Cowell, Sr., 72, Hopkinsville, passed away on Tuesday November 4, 2025, in Nashville, TN.

Larry, the son of the late Sudie Mae Mercer Cowell and Cardwell Cowell, Sr., was born on August 11, 1953, in Belcross, NC.

Larry was a member of Virginia Street Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, a part of the Men's Chorus, Youth Advisory Counsel, Bus Ministry, Adopt-a-grandparent, Culinary Department, Children's Department, and Sunday School Teacher. He retired as a Lieutenant with the KY State Penitentiary. He is a U.S. Army veteran, Lifetime member of American Legion, member of Masonic Lodge, former Scout Master, and current member of FOP.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Zaneta Taylor, Gail Butts, Maurice Cowell, and Nicholas S. Cowell Sr; Brother in love, Rodney Taylor.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Erma Atkins Cowell; children, Locquetta (Reginald) Cone, Michael (Sabrina) Cowell, and Larry Cowell, Jr.; Siblings, Debra (Wallace) White, Elder Antionette Cowell (Kathy Simms, Special Friend), Angela Cowell, Pastor Dirlene C. Cannon, Shirlene Cowell, Deborah Cowell (Sister in love), Rev. Cardwell L. (Nicole) Cowell, Jr., Willis Ray (JoAnn) Cowell, Pastor Dale (Cyndi) Cowell, Anthony (Louise) Cowell, Pastor Oscar Butts (brother in love), 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great-grandchild.
