BEVERLY MORRIS Obituary

BEVERLY MORRIS Beverly Ann Gilligan Morris, 87, formerly of New York, N.Y., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 8, 2025, at Sterling Village Skilled Nursing Center. A funeral service for Beverly and her husband Charles will take place 10 a.m. on September 27 in the chapel of St. Michael's Church in Penn Yan. Friends and relatives are invited to attend to pay their respects. Born in Penn Yan on June 5, 1937, to the late John Mack and Hilda Kurtz Gilligan, Beverly grew up in Penn Yan, N.Y. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy High School and from Mount Aloysius Junior College. While living in Brooklyn, N.Y., Beverly was deeply engaged in community service. She joined the board of directors of CAMBA and was instrumental in the agency's economic, educational, and social programs for the people of the city. She was the president of CAMBA Housing Ventures which has provided 3,000 affordable homes to the citizens of Brooklyn. Beverly was a plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case, The Board of Estimates of the City of New York v. Morris. The court unanimously declared the New York City Board of Estimates unconstitutional, which changed New York City's system of government. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband, Charles. She is survived by her three children, Michael (Jennifer), Kathleen, Matthew (Hiromi), and four grandchildren, Robin, Leo, Charlie, and Tyler. Beverly will be dearly missed. She will be remembered for her wry sense of humor, her wonderful cooking and her deep love of family and community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CAMBA online at www.CAMBA.org.
