DONALD REX SHAW Donald Rex Shaw, 79, of Penn Yan, N.Y., passed away Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. Don was born in Cortland, N.Y., on October 12, 1944, the son of the late Donald Carlton and Virginia Marie (Stoddard) Shaw. Don graduated from Moravia Central School, Auburn Community College and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. He worked at Shuron Optical in Geneva where he met the love of his life Linda. Don retired as the Undergrad Lab Supervisor for the Dept. of Electrical Engineering at Syracuse University. Don was an Amateur (Ham) Radio Operator and participated in the Ham Radio Club at both Auburn Community and Syracuse University, he was a member of Emergency Preparedness in Cayuga, Onondaga and Yates Counties. Don has also worked for the Yates County Farmers Market with his loving wife Linda and daughter Laura. Don is survived by his loving wife, Linda B. Shaw; daughter, Laura Shaw; sister, Melody Conklin; two nieces and one nephew, as well as great-nieces and -nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, an infant sister; and his in-laws, Kenneth D. and Elsie Marie Bailey. Friends and family called from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 135 Hamilton St., Penn Yan, NY 14527. His funeral followed at the church at 1 p.m. Burial with Military Honors followed at Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to the Humane Society of Yates County, the Alzhiemer's Association, or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
