WILLIAM WIEGAND
October 29, 1951 - September 21, 2025
William Phillips Wiegand, beloved husband, father, brother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on September 21, 2025. He was 73.
Born on October 29, 1951, in Potsdam, N.Y., Bill was the son of Virginia and Oscar Wiegand. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Christine Clark Wiegand; his daughters, Dana and Bethany Wiegand of Bridgewater, N.J.; and his siblings, Richard Wiegand of Stroudsburg, Pa., and Susan Anderson of New Port Richey, Fla.
Bill was a graduate of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., earned his Master's Degree in German from University of Maine-Orono, and received his teaching certification from University of Connecticut-Storrs where he met his wife, Chris.
Bill taught English and German for 35 years, 33 of which were at Lenape Regional High School in Medford, N.J. Never one to be caught idle, he worked as "The Home Services Specialist" weekends and summers while Chris earned her degree in accounting. Only after she graduated from Rutgers-Camden did he enjoy a summer of leisure, kayaking his beloved bogs of New Jersey Pine Barrens, sailing his beloved Hobie Cat and camping at Keuka Lake State Park in Jerusalem, N.Y.
Bill and Chris retired to what he called their little "farmette" in Penn Yan, N.Y., in 2016. Bill planted fruit trees, took pride in his bountiful apple harvest, and thoroughly enjoyed using his home services skills on their pre-1810 farmhouse. Bill especially enjoyed volunteering at The Humane Society of Yates County as long as his health allowed.
Bill faced many health challenges causing Bill and Chris to sell their beloved "farmette" last year and move to Canandaigua where they were blessed to make many wonderful friends in their new church and community and to enjoy Bill's last year despite the challenges brought on by his failing health.
A memorial service will be held for Bill on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. at The First Congregational Church of Canandaigua, UCC (58 North Main Street, Canandaigua). Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance. The family would be honored to hear stories and memories in celebration of Bill's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Yates County (
