Send FlowersCharles "Charlie" Clevenger died on November 26, 2025 at Wesleyan Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was 98 years old. He was born in Muncie on February 11, 1927 to Walter and Eva (McCorkle) Clevenger. He attended Royerton School and in January 1945 joined the US Navy and proudly served his country in World War II and he reenlisted to serve in the Korean Conflict, earning a Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, and Naval Occupations Service Medal.
On August 11, 1956, Charlie married the love of his life, Joy Joan "Jo" Wright, in Muncie. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2021, being together almost 65 years.
Charlie retired from Borg Warner in Muncie at the age of 70. He also enjoyed working with his hands and completely and proudly remodeled their home in Matthews. He also had other jobs on the side and was always ready to help out when needed for his many skills. He made sure there was plenty of free time for family and friends with cookouts and usually a water fight.
He is survived by his children, Karen (Sam) Fanning, Shelli Greer, and Phil Clevenger; grandchildren, Tera (Sam) Skeens, Tommy (Karla) Fanning, and Kyle (Shelly) Fanning; great-grandchildren, Ethan (Kayla) Keller, Olivia (Cole) Woolf, Justin Graham, Luke Graham, Breanna (Tyler) Brooks, Sierra Graham, Addison, Emmilyn, Laykin, and Nolan Fanning, and Ashlie Kemble; and great-great-grandchildren, Logan, Annelise, and Zora Graham, Tatum Woolf, and Baby Brooks on the way; and of course grand and great-great grand fur babies. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Jo, his parents, and all of his siblings.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones-Smith Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 259 North Main Street, Upland, Indiana 46989, where a visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will take place at Matthews Cemetery in Matthews.
The family cannot express enough their sincere appreciation for the wonderful, compassionate care and kindness of all the wonderful people at Wesleyan Health and Rehab Center. "Thank you all so very much for everything."
