Charles David Smith, 84, Marion, passed away at 12:52 am on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Carrollton, Texas. He was born in Marion, Indiana, on Tuesday, December 2, 1941, to Charles and Dorothy (Moore) Smith.
He served in the United States Army and then worked at Bell Fiber. He was a member of the American Legion for 29 years. He was also a private investigator for 15 years. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and watching all kinds of sports. He was a big Colts fan. More than anything, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his children, Lori (Mark) Miller of Galveston, Kari Gilkison of Marion, Charles E. Smith of Gas City, Jennifer (Willie) Dyson of Carrollton, TX; sister, Loretta Blair of Big Stone Gap, VA; brothers, Gary Smith of Maysville, KY, James Allen (the late Sheila) Smith of Marion; grandchildren, Lloyd, Jr., Kristina, Matthew, Corbin, Gabriel, Grant, Colten,; 5 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Linda Smith.
He was preceded in death by parents, Charles E. and Dorothy M. Smith; sisters, Sandy Owen, Phyllis DeCamp, Cathy Smith; brothers, Robert Smith, Johnny Smith; grandson, David Davis; and great granddaughter, Graycee.
The family will receive visitors from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, Storey Chapel 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Charles 's life will begin at 11:30 am with Pastor Mark Atkinson officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery.
