David Lee Wallace, MD, 73, of Marion, Indiana passed away on January 7, 2025, at Wesleyan Health Care & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. He was born in Indianapolis on July 27, 1951, to Don and Mary (Lee) Wallace. On August 24, 1996, he married Sharon Garris.
David graduated from Ben Davis High School (Valedictorian) in Indianapolis in 1968. He was accepted into the B.S. in Medical Sciences program at Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine, where he completed three years of undergraduate work and the first two years of medical school. After graduating with the distinction of Summa Cum Laude and in the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 1972, he completed the final two years of his medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine and received his M.D. in 1974. He earned Board Certification in Internal Medicine in 1979.
He owned a private practice and worked in several hospitals in Indiana as a Medical Doctor from 1979 to 2015. He spent seven years as a Hospitalist at Marion General Hospital before retiring from Indiana University Health Goshen Hospital.
He was active in community service, both locally and overseas. He served on the Board of Directors for Visiting Nurses Association from 1987 to 1996, and was a Medical Missionary to Haiti. While in Haiti, he developed an interest in its art, returning with several pieces for his private collection.
David embraced many hobbies. Of these, perhaps his great passion was fishing with his daughters. He was an avid golfer and reader. He was particularly fond of the fantasy and science fiction genre. He also liked to travel, with Hawaii as his favorite destination. Other interests were board games, card games, video games, cooking, and photography.
Sports played a big role in his life. He was proud of his volleyball and bowling skills, initially acquiring these as a college student. He first met Sharon in a volleyball league, prior to spending the rest of his life as husband and wife. A fan of the Indy 500, he attended many races with his father. His favorite teams were the Indiana Hoosier basketball team, Indiana Pacers, and Indianapolis Colts.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Wallace; daughters, Morgan, Marisa and Madison Wallace; sister, Kim (Larry) Myrvold, brother, Dr. Mark (Dr. Anita Murcko) Wallace, sister, Dr. Megan (Dr. Vance Abshire) Abshire, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don V. Wallace and mother, Mary Lee Wallace.

David and I attended Ben Davis High School. My fondest memory of David was in Advanced Biology class with Mr. Benny Townsend. We were lab partners (much to his dismay-lol). After he watched me mangle my earth worm, he decided he would dissect the joint projects.
I´m sure that improved my grade tremendously as he had a much steadier hand.
My condolences to all of his family.

My sincerest condolences to Dave's entire family. We spent many fun times in high school playing games and going on adventures. I particularly liked our trips to downtown Indianapolis, seeing a James Bond movie and wandering through Block's department store. RIP, Dave.

I worked with Dr. Wallace at MGH. He was compassionate and very thorough. He never let the pressure he was under change his attitude. He had a sense of humor that I appreciated. I was always happy to find out that he would be the hospitalist on my shift.
