LouEda Surfus Obituary

LouEda "Edie" Surfus, 84, Marion, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 15, 2023. She was born in Peru, Indiana, on Monday, August 8, 1938, to Willis W. and Martelle (Ferree) Prine. On August 6, 1960, she married Delbert D. Surfus, Sr., who survives.

Edie graduated from Fort Wayne Central High School and was a homemaker throughout her life. She loved her family and had a great passion for her grandkids and keeping up with all of their activities. Edie was an avid reader and prayer warrior; she could always be found reading her Bible. She wrote to missionaries, was involved in service for Right to Life, Alcoholics Anonymous, Crisis Pregnancy Center, and the Cancer Society. Edie will be missed dearly by her family and all the neighborhood animals. She was a member of Brookhaven Wesleyan Church.

In addition to her husband of nearly 63 years, survivors include her children, D. Dan (Sara) Surfus of North Webster, Cheri (Timothy) Moser-Coomer of Corydon, Tamera (Tom) Zerfass-Bingham of Huntington, and Michele (David) Henry of Marion; sister, Janet (Robert) Heare of Fort Wayne; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Carol Watson and Marcine Robertson; brother, Richard Prine; and son-in-law, Ronald Moser.

The family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Brookhaven Wesleyan Church, 2960 E. 38th St., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a service to celebrate Edie's life will begin at 3:00 pm with Pastor Alexander Henry and Rev. Tony Bye officiating. Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Fort Wayne.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Gideons International, PO Box 773, Marion, IN 46952.

Aunt LouEda had such a great sense of humor, was full of so much love and had a great memory of the family genealogy. I am so thankful I was able to see her on my visit from Texas a few weeks ago. She will be greatly missed. All my love to the family.
