Ronald Eugene Baxter, a lifelong resident of Marion, Indiana, went home to be with his Lord on May 17, 2025, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born on Aug. 24, 1948, he was a graduate of Marion High School, class of 1967.
Ron's military service was marked by distinction as an aircraft mechanic in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he pursued a career in the construction industry, establishing himself as a skilled carpenter. His dedication culminated in 25 years of faithful employment at General Motors. Though health problems limited his life in later years, he managed to "Make America Great Again."
A man of faith, Ron was a devoted member of First Church of God in Marion. His commitment to the community was evident through his involvement as a Boy Scout Troop Leader. He also diligently organized and updated records of the VA cemetery.
Ron was known for his peculiar habit of never traveling without encountering someone he knew. However, his true spirit shone as "Baked Bean", the clown, and as Santa Claus to children of all ages.
Ron's kind heart and larger-than-life spirit were cherished as a husband, dad, and pap.
He is survived by the love of his life of 55 years, Linda (Fortney) Baxter; son, Michael (Michelle) Baxter; daughter, Lesley (Steve) Sparks; grandchildren, Matthew Baxter, Katie (Tyler) Sweet, Mikey Baxter, Joshua Sparks, Zachary Sparks, and Maxwell Baxter; and brother, Andy Baxter of FL.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Narolla Baxter; sister, Lelia; brother-in-law, Phil Daily; and sister-in-law, Judy Baxter.
Ron's legacy of faith, kindness, generosity, joy, and laughter will live on through his loving family, all who knew him, and every soul he touched.
The family will receive visitors from 12 noon to 2 p.m., on Friday, May 23 at First Church of God, 450 W. 50th St., Marion.
Immediately following the visitation, a service to celebrate Ron's life will begin at 2 p.m., with Fred Cohlhepp officiating. Burial will take place at Marion National Cemetery at 9 a.m., on Tuesday, May 27.
