Barry Wayne Lemke was born in Honolulu, HI on September 29, 1956 to MSgt. Orville and Mary Lemke. He passed away on February 16, 2026 in Citrus Springs, FL.
He graduated from Napa High School, Napa CA. in 1974 and promptly enlisted in the U.S. Navy becoming a Fire Control Technician. He was released from duty with an Honorable Discharge as an FTM2 in October 1978.
After his military service he was employed by MUNI Rail Systems in San Francisco for many years. Rising from a control technician to Asst Control Engineer, designing and maintaining control systems for the rail service. He took his leave of Muni and went to work in the private sector for various engineering firms taking his love of trains with him.
As a Senior Signal Designer with over 35 years of experience, he was responsible for designing systems for light rail operations in Seattle WA, Oceanside CA, Boston MA, Salt Lake City UT and Caltrain in San Francisco. Much of this time was working for WSP – Parsons Brinckerhoff Corp.
Barry was a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association. He was a published author of several papers including System Integration Testing of a Start Up Light Rail System. He was a well-respected member of his craft.
He was a kind man who loved boating and making new friends at the local pub. He never met anyone who wasn't his friend.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael Orville and sister Diane Margueritte Gray (Lemke). He is survived by his brother David Bruce (Myrnie), nephew Tyson (Amber) and niece Victoria. Also nieces Heather Torres (Lemke), Valerie Fox (Gray) and nephew Mark Gray (Katrina).
Interment was in Fort Atkinson, WI at Evergreen Cemetery on February 26, 2026 surrounded by family. A military honor guard played taps followed by a 12-gun salute. May He Rest in Peace not far from his father Orville.
