Dan was one of the most warm, wonderful and inviting people I have ever met. Some people just leave a hole in the universe and Dan will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers to Gunter, his family, his dear friend Betty and to all who were blessed to have known him. Good night sweet Prince.

Upon my retirement from the Air Force and my arrival at AFNE in 1974, it was Dan Allen who was instrumental in my segue from airplanes to airwaves. What a wonderful guy with whom to work and learn. From his demeanor in the newsroom to his captivating tales shared with Chris and I at our home in Dortelweil, Dan was a gem.
Our condolences to his family.

I was ever so lucky to join the Dan Allen family circle when Dan's mother, Postmaster Vivian C. Allen, asked me to go to work for her 45 years ago when the post office was in Dan's father's real estate office at the entrance to Palm Point in Inglis. Dan's dad, Dewey D Allen, was Mayor of Inglis for over 30 years and very active in state politics. Dan was all over the world making history and reporting it in the early years but returned home to Inglis with friend Gunter and built an awesome home on the banks of the Withlacoochee River just across from where his mother and father lived. The home was open to family and friends on any occassion, with food, music and conversation on a level most people here don't get to experience. My mother, Sara Weaver, and myself were always invited to the gatherings and the two loved to share the home, the collections from their life travels and endless pictures and movies. I replaced Dan's mother at the post office many summers while Dan's parents spent months visiting and traveling Europe with the son they loved so much. The words to describe Dan's intelligence, hospitility, caring know no limit. Dan always had time for a word or a smile when he came to pick up his mail at P O Box 4 Inglis that I think he had since birth. There were many trips to Hickory Island he and the family loved to share with many. Dan, one of the most brilliant men I ever met, who never lost his small town love though he saw the world, will rest with his parents and the Hodges family, that all made history here, behind the wrought iron gated cemetery on Hickory Island. Dan touched the lives of every one he encountered and we all are better people for having known this awesome person. My love and prayers to Gunter, Sherry Beth and Brent, Dottie and all the family both related and unrelated that Dan welcomed into his life. DAN LOVED LIFE AND HE LIVED HIS LIFE, EVERY MINUTE OF IT.

I knew Dan for only these last five years. He was a true Renaissance gentleman. He could talk to anyone and put me at ease immediately You couldn't help but love him. His interests were so varied and his conversations always stimulating. I will remember him for his love of that video camera he always seemed to have running, his parties and his humor. May God hold you close Dan. Condolences to his long time companion and his family. Midge Peran Chicago, IL

Dan, you were a pro in every sense of the word, and I am proud to have known you when you were at AFN Europe. This young and inexperienced broadcaster learned an awful lot about "the business" from our talks together and by listning to you and Milt Fullerton, take the most boring of news stories and deliver them in such a way that could make a grown man cry. Rest in peace Dan and God bless you.

Thanks again for the understanding, the insight, the knowledge, that you offered, and gave to a young kid beginning his life.

From the Central News desk and echoing hallways of AFN Europe, to the quiet surroundings of Hickory Island, you Sir Dan will be missed so much. What a gentleman. What a Pro.

As a young teen in Germany I heard Dan's sweet voice for the first time on AFN. I told him many times that he was part of the lure that then represented the USA to me.
Dennis and I feel priviledged to have known Dan and we will never forget him.
Our condolences to Guenter and Dan's family.

Dan and I were broadcast colleagues at American Forces Network in Europe for 16 years. I never met a more professional, accomplished and reliable journalist. Most of that period was in Germany, where Dan was fluent in the local language. For a time, he also served as the network’s London correspondent. He was a cultured man whose intelligence and sense of good taste, propriety, knowledge of current events and curiosity about the world made him a joy to be with. We’ll miss him but I can assure you that his star will continue to shine in the hearts of all whose lives he touched through the eight decades of his remarkable life. God rest his soul.

Dan was the picture you found in the dictionary of a true gentleman. He led such an interesting life. Dan had friends throughout the world and loved this part of Florida very much. We will miss our friend but know he will always be a part of Tuesday Night. Prosit Dan!

I've known Dan for about six years. I found him to be an intelligent and witty individual. I really enjoyed talking with him at our Tuesday night get togethers at Betty's. Clearly a gentleman of the old school, he will be missed.
