Gerald Morris Seguin Sr.

Gerald Morris Seguin Sr., 91, of Homosassa died at his home in Forest View retirement community on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2016, after a brief illness.
He was born September 7, 1925, in Ellenburg Depot, NY, the ninth child Joseph and Minnie (Facteau) Seguin.
Mr. Seguin was educated in Ellenburg, NY, schools, attended the State University in Canton, NY, and graduated from Plattsburgh Business Institute.
He joined the Air Force in 1947 and served as a mechanic, rising to the rank of staff sergeant.
In 1951 he married the former Mamie King of Chazy Lake, NY. She died in 1987. Later, in 1990, he married the former Susan Warford of Altona, NY, who survives him.
Mr. Seguin was a dairy farmer and carpenter. He retired in 1989 from the Town of Chazy, NY, after 13 years in building and maintenance. He served on the Northern Adirondack Central School Board of Education for 13 years and was assessor for the Town of Altona, NY, for six years.
Mr. Seguin enjoyed quilting and won several prizes for his work. Two of his quilts were featured in Quilting Today magazine. In recent years, he made small inspirational wall hangings, which he gave to friends and donated to his church.
He was active in St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Crystal River, FL, and had previously been a member of St. Louis of France Church in Sciota, NY, where his children were baptized and received their religious training and where he served on the Parish Council. He was deeply spiritual and twice traveled to Israel to follow the footsteps of Jesus.
He was a kind and gentle person who was well respected and liked by friends and co-workers and was deeply loved by his family.
He and his wife lived in the Forest View retirement community in Homosassa for 13 years. They moved here from Altona, NY.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Seguin is survived by three children, Gerald M. Seguin Jr. of West Chazy, NY, Geraldine Somers and her husband, David, of Newport, RI, and Jane Seguin Ayres of Punta Gorda, FL; a sister, Betty Morrow of Altona, NY; five grandchildren, Jennifer Fox of Goffstown, NH, Edward Orr of Plattsburgh, NY, Erin Romano of Westfield, NJ, Sarah Bena of Steamboat Springs, CO, and William Seguin of West Chazy, NY. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family members who died earlier are his first wife, Mamie Seguin; a daughter, Joyce Seguin; seven brothers, Wilfred, Frederick, Lester, Herbert, Peter, Homer and Elmer Seguin; three sisters, Luva Lagoy, Rita Parrot, and Helena Seguin; and a grandson, Christopher J. Orr.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral mass will be held Monday, November 14, 2016, at St. Benedict's Church, Crystal River, FL, at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Forest View Estates clubhouse. Services will also be held at St. Louis of France Church in Sciota, NY, Friday, November 18, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Louis of France cemetery and a reception will take place in Holy Angels parish hall, Altona, NY.
