Jacob Blanton Obituary
Jacob "Jake" Eugene Blanton, age 99 of Inverness, FL passed away January 19, 2025 at The Grove Health & Rehabilitation Center. Jake was born in Shelby, N.C. on April 9, 1925 to the late George T. and Delia (Green) Blanton and moved to Citrus County from Miami where he lived for 30 years. He retired from the construction industry, having built both residential and commercial structures.
He enjoyed the outdoor life, being an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his favorite tasks was taking care of his property. Additionally, he loved to eat! He enjoyed many favorite dishes and made it a point to eat plenty. He served our country during WW II in the U.S. Navy. Being civic minded and loving his community, he served on the City Council of Inverness (1971-1975) as well as the Mayor (1981-1983).
Jake was blessed to have two wonderful marriages. His first wife Jewell, preceded him in death following 49 years of marriage. She passed away July 14, 1997. His second wife, Betty, passed away November 28, 2020 following 22 years of marriage.
Survivors include a stepson, Steve Pittard and a stepdaughter, Tina Spain both of Georgia. There are several grandchildren including Lee (Michelle) and Lonnie Case. Other survivors include a cousin, Ed Blanton, a nephew, William Allan Blanton; a niece, Tina Lisa Buckley; another grandson, Rick Andrews; and a granddaughter, Lori Case. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Clifford Pittard and 2 stepdaughters, Betty Andrews and Alice Snowdon. He also lost 3 brothers, Zeb Blanton, Louie Blanton, and Bill Blanton and 3 sisters, Evelyn Gilmore, Mayme Sapp, and Annice Ice
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home of Inverness. The Rev Dr Byron Brown, Pastor of The First Baptist Church of Inverness will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Blanton Family Mausoleum of Oak Ridge Cemetery, Inverness, Florida where Military Honors will be rendered.
There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 12 Noon on Thursday until the time of service.
