James Conway Obituary

James "Jim" Conway passed away peacefully in his sleep at Legacy Hospice House of Ocala (Marion County) FL on December 30, 2017 after suffering a stroke on December 20th. He was born on February 9, 1936 in Quincy, MA to Henry and Louise (Post) Conway.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Marjorie Marie (Joudrey) Conway in 2001 and his oldest son Mark James Conway earlier in 2017. He is survived by: his wife Cynthia (Erving) Conway of Dunnellon; his son Kevin D. Conway and his wife Laura Morelli Conway of Moultonborough, NH; his grandchildren Adam Mark Conway of Tempe, AZ and Joudrey Marie Conway of Meredith, NH and is also survived by three stepsons and their wives; eleven step grandchildren and eleven step great grandchildren and was beloved by all. Jim is also survived by his extended family in MA, many close friends in his church in FL, the motor coach community, antique car clubs, the motel in NH and all his travels.
He was a Veteran of the National Guard in Braintree, MA. Jim had passion for cars and started his career working for his father at Conway Custom Radiator Shop in Quincy, MA. He later worked at the Fore River Ship Yard in Quincy, Armstrong Cork in Braintree and eventually found a long career at and retired from IBM.
Jim grew up in Quincy, MA and started his family in Weymouth, MA. In 1978 he moved his family to Weirs Beach, NH to own and operate the Lake Winnipesaukee Motel until 1999. He lived in Northfield, NH for several years and spent many winters in different parts of Florida before building a home in Dunnellon in 2005.
He was widely respected as one who could build, fix, convert or restore anything and he always had several projects going. Over the course of his life he had built and improved every property he ever owned. He had also restored many antique automobiles which he would proudly drive in parades or auto shows, often bringing home trophies. He also converted and traveled extensively in two custom recreational motor coaches.
Jim was active in many clubs over his 81 years, including: Boy Scouts of America Troop 2 in Weymouth, MA, Antique Auto Club of America (two chapters), South Shore Antique Auto Club in MA and Kingdom of the Sun in Ocala, FL, the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, Bussin' Buddies of New England and the Southeast Bus Nuts of Florida.
He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Laconia, NH and Holy Faith Episcopal Church in Dunnellon, FL, where he served as sexton, then later on the vestry as Junior Warden. Jim was very active in the Men's Club and the Food-4-Kids program of Dunnellon.
A Celebration of Life will be heled at Holy Faith Episcopal Church in Dunnellon, FL on January 20, 2018 at 11 am followed by a reception in Faith Hall. Graveside services will be held at Hall Place Cemetery in West Quincy, MA in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Food-4-Kids Inc. Program of Dunnellon or The Legacy Hospice House of Marion County, Florida.

Mr. Conway,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the Massachusetts National Guard during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
