John D. Maasch, age 61, of Beverly Hills, FL passed away peacefully and with dignity from this life following a courageous fight with a very lengthy illness on August 5, 2022 under the exceptional care of HPH Hospice in Lecanto, FL and with his wife and daughter by his side.
John was born on March 24, 1961 in Brookhaven, NY to Jack Ernest and Evelyn Louise (Smith) Maasch. On graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving six years primarily in the Persian Gulf region and obtaining a fully honorable discharge.
He returned to his family in New York, and later followed their move to Florida, where he met his wife. John's life's work was in the Nursing Home field, serving in a wide variety of non-nursing occupations; dietary technician, laundry manager, maintenance and floor technician. Having empathy for those residing in these facilities, particularly those who were rarely visited, he was always happy to stop to chat and joke with residents.
He enjoyed building bird houses to hang outside of his home, and with his family watched many generations of bird families come and go. He loved to build model cars from kits and to operate his remote-control cars in the local parks and his back yard. In the days when the self-repairing of cars was still possible, he loved doing this, as well. A man with a quick wit, he was always ready with the perfect joke for any situation.
Left to cherish and honor his memory are his devoted wife of nearly 30 years, Patricia Maasch; loving daughter, Rachel Baril; brothers, Robert Maasch of Beverly Hills, FL and David Maasch of Illinois and a sister, Cheryl.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the entire staff of HPH Hospice, in particular, his nurse, Cinnamon. Without their care, John would not have had the peaceful, painless, dignified release that he so desired and so fully deserved.
Private cremation will take place under the direction of Brown Funeral Home and Crematory in Lecanto, FL. A private family service is to be held at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of John to HPH (Hernando-Pasco Hospice) of Lecanto, 2939 W Gulf to Lake Hwy., Lecanto, FL 34461. Rest well and fly high, John. You will be missed.
