Our beloved father, John R. Nuismer, 82, of Dunnellon, died Wed., May 18th from dementia related illness. He was born Aug. 22, 1939 in Chicago, IL. to Ralph J. and Dorothy Boer Nuismer.
John served in the Air Force from late 1957 to May of 1962. His love of airplanes and flying led to a lifelong career with United Airlines. He married Eileen O'Brien in Jan. 1959 and they had their first son, Mark, in 1961.
In 1962 they moved to the San Francisco bay area where John started with United as an airline mechanic. They had a second son, Greg, in 1964.
In 1972 they moved to Cedar City, Utah, where John went to Southern Utah University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Business. In 1974 the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where John got his MBA from the University of Utah.
John and Eileen bought property in Oregon where they planned to retire in 1988. In 1996 they changed their minds and bought a home near Dunnellon on the Withlacoochie River. They enjoyed their retirement there until Eileen developed dementia. Dad took care of her until her death in 2016. In the years after that he wrote online reviews for Walmart and enjoyed bicycling around north central Florida.
He had a deep interest in computers and technology.
He is survived by a younger brother Ralph John Nuismer and his wife, Jean, of Salt Lake City, Utah; son Greg in Salt Lake and Mark in Tuscaloosa, AL. as well as four grandchildren in Salt Lake: Rhiannon, Keaton, Austin, and Catherine.
Memorial services are currently being planned. All inquiries should be directed to Mark Nuismer at [email protected].
