Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother Margaret (Peggy) Simonson of Crystal River died peacefully at Cedar Creek at Kings Bay Assisted Living Facility Crystal River, Florida, on Dec. 11, 2023. She was born in Newark, New Jersey on Oct. 20, 1924, to Mary and George Thompsett. She lived in Garwood and Westfield, New Jersey, for many years with her late husband Fred B. Simonson after their marriage on June 9, 1944, during WWII, while Fred was home from the U.S. Navy on a 3-day pass.
They were married for 73 years.
After retirement she and her husband, Fred, divided time between Lake Underwood, PA, and Crystal River FL, finally settling full time in Florida. Peggy was an accomplished cook and seamstress, creating many delicious meals and sewing clothing as well as items for the household.
"Grammie" is survived by her loving son, Fred C. Simonson and his wife Katie. One of her great loves were her grandchildren Mary Simonson (Jeff Bary) and Calvin Simonson (Jill (nee Clancy), and she welcomed her grandchildren with delight, the late Michael "Mac" Simonson and Sloane Evans Simonson.
Peggy lived a long and productive life. Private services will be held in Westfield, New Jersey, at a later date. The Simonson Family appreciates all of the love and excellent care shown to Peggy during the last several years by the compassionate and helpful staff at Cedar Creek Assisted Living, 231 N.W. Hwy. 19, Crystal River FL, and request that any memorial gifts be contributed to the staff, attn: Heather Fritz.
We are also grateful to the Hospice care givers at Vitas Healthcare, who made Peggy's last days comfortable and dignified.
