Marie Catherine Comiskey, of Inverness, was called by Our Lord on March 7, 2022, at the age of 98, under the loving care of her family and Vitas Hospice in Lecanto.
Marie was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 8, 1923 to Salvatore Scarpelli and Josephine (Ciaccio) Scarpelli. She and her husband, Bill, came to Citrus County in 1974 from Metuchen, NJ, where she was a long time member of the American Italian Club, and was actively involved in volunteer work and fundraising activities for the Sisters of Our Lady of Africa.
When they arrived in Inverness, Marie and Bill joined Our Lady of Fatima Parish, where Marie sang in the church choir for many years. Marie took particular joy teaching children arts and crafts at the Busy Bee Pre-School in Inverness, where she was in charge of the program during the 1980's.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kathleen M. Balabas of New Smyrna Beach, William J. Comiskey III of Inverness and John P. and Melissa Comiskey, of Aledo, TX; her grandchildren: Kerri, Kevin, Jimmy, AnnMarie, Brent, Shawn, Ashlyn, JW and Trace; and her eight great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 1996 and her daughter, Maureen Richie in 2012.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM from Our Lady of Fatima Church in Inverness, with Fr. Claudius Mganga, Celebrant. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with prayer services at 7:30 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home, Inverness.
