Mary C. Guertin, Raoul A. Guertin
Mary Catherine Guertin, 94, passed away December 11, 2019 in Rutland, VT. Born in 1925 in Bridgeport, CT, she was the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Baltrusaitis) Abramczyk.
Mrs. Guertin grew up in Bridgeport, graduating from Bassick High School in 1943, and later from the American Institute of Banking. After working at various retail and banking institutions, Mary retired from the former Connecticut National Bank in 1982 as Teller Supervisor after 17 years of service.
Raoul "Fuzzy" Albert Guertin, 97, died December 17, 2020 in Rutland, VT. Born in 1923 in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of Raoul and Florence (Maginnis) Guertin.
Mr. Guertin grew up in Bridgeport, graduating from Central High School in 1941. While employed at Remington Arms Co., he joined the Army and served as a Medic in France during WWII. After returning to the States, he worked at Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1982 as Cable Foreman after almost 35 years of service.
Mary and Raoul met at a mutual friend's wedding and hit it off! They married in 1948 and settled in Trumbull CT to raise their family. In retirement, they spent 31 years in Homosassa FL.
They were founding members of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and were active in their parish, Knights of Columbus and the Loyal Order of Moose. Mary was an avid knitter, supplying all with hats, mittens, afghans and throws. She also enjoyed crocheting, golfing, daily walks and lunching with her lady friends.
Fuzzy loved to read and putter in his workshop, and was frequently found at the Knight's, repairing anything that needed fixing, and working at the Fish Fries dinners.
In 2014, Mary and Raoul relocated to Arizona and then, in 2019, to Rutland, VT.
Mary and Raoul were totally devoted to each other throughout their long marriage, and provided their children with love and stability. They are survived by children Paul (Marianne) of Phoenix AZ, Raoul (Susan) of New Milford, CT and Mary-Sue (Frank) Reed of Poultney, VT.
They were predeceased by their first child, Susan.
They are also survived by six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary is survived by a sister, JoAnn Bederman, and predeceased by sister and nephew Lorraine and Douglas Dumas. Raoul was predeceased by a brother George.
Funeral services will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Homosassa, FL on September 30, 2021, 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society (SVDP Society-St. Thomas the Apostle Conference) sent to St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 7040 South Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa, FL 34446.
The family thanks the staff at Rutland (VT) Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for the outstanding care given to Mary before her passing, and Aldous Funeral Home (Rutland VT), for much-needed assistance in arrangements both before and during the covid epidemic.
