Michael Francis Bessell, 69, of Hernando, Florida, passed away September 20. 2021.
He was born February 10, 1952 in Miami, Florida to Raymond T. and Ann (Chesky) Bessell. He began his career in the construction industry in 1970 working as a carpenter in Dade and Broward Counties.
He served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army from 1976 to 1984, stationed in Germany, Oklahoma and Florida.
In 1985 he went to work for the City of Ft. Lauderdale, FL as an Engineering Inspector. In 1988, he obtained his General Contractor license from the State of Florida and began his career as a Building Inspector/Plan Reviewer and worked for the cities of Plantation and Boca Raton, FL and most recently Hernando County, FL.
He was a long time member of the Building Officials and Inspectors Association of South Florida, as well as a member of the Florida Association of Code Enforcement. In 1992, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of the State of New York.
In 2014 he moved from Boynton Beach, FL to Hernando. He enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of the Homeowner's Associations in both Boynton Beach and Clearview Estates. He also served on the Building Board of Adjustment in Boynton Beach and the Code Review and Appeals Board in Citrus County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Stephanie Bessell.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Monica (Wilson) Bessell, beloved daughter, Heather Humphrey III and her husband George, of Moline, IL, three amazing grandchildren, George Humphrey IV, Justice Humphrey and Bryce Humphrey, all of Moline, IL, step-sister Barbara Colon (David) of Deland, FL, step-sister Fran Feldman-Vingelli (Vinny) of Sarasota, FL, sisters-in-law, Debra Wilson and Ginger Wilson, of Minneola, FL, brother-in-law David Lustrup of Coral Springs, FL, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Michael was a loyal friend who will be greatly missed by his many friends and colleagues. Michael was a wonderful man who loved life, had a great sense of humor, a compassionate and generous heart, and was dearly loved by his family.
