Miriam Skiba (nee Berrios), 87, passed away September 9, 2021, at Arbor Trail Rehab And Skilled Nursing Center in Inverness, FL.
Born in Mayaguez, P.R. on March 4, 1934, she moved along with her family to the NY/NJ metropolitan area, settling in Bayonne, NJ, where she attended elementary and high school and met the love of her life, Eugene (Gene) A. Skiba. Miriam and her husband Gene resided in Jersey City, Bayonne, Spotswood, Old Bridge, Linden, NJ, where they raised their family.
Upon her husband's retirement, they moved to Cresco, PA, in the Poconos, where her husband passed away suddenly in 1986. Upon retiring from AT&T in 1990, Miriam moved to Lecanto, FL, where she lived until her death.
Miriam was active in the Catholic Church, worked part-time for a travel agency, and caught the "travel" bug. Miriam loved to knit, garden, travel, and play cards with her friends and often reminisce about family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many friends, and extended family.
Preceded in death by her parents Anna (nee Garcia) and Juan Berrios, her sister Alicia, her loving husband Eugene (Gene) Skiba, her son-in-law John Jakubowski, her daughter Yolanda (nee Skiba) Jakubowski, and her son Lawrence (Larry).
Surviving family members include her son Michael and his wife Candace; son Paul and his wife Tracy; grandchildren Rachel, Michael, Dean and his wife Sondra; great-grandchildren Benjamin (Ben) and Wilson; son Eugene, Jr and his wife Tanvi, grandchildren Dhyllan and Izabelle; and Miriam's sisters Elsie, Sonia, Annie, her brother Victor and her beloved dog, Prince.
Memorial services will be held at Brown Funeral Home and Crematory, Crystal River, FL on Tuesday, 21 September 2021 commencing at 10:00 am to 11:00 am with Prayer service starting at 11:00. Miriam's final resting place will be with her husband at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg, PA.
