Nicholas Bryant Obituary

Nicholas "Nick" Reynolds Bryant Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, and public servant, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of 83 at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida.

Born in Springfield, Illinois on August 21, 1942, Nick devoted his life to uplifting others through education, service, and faith. He began his career in education in the 1960s and spent decades shaping young minds in Citrus County, teaching at Crystal River Elementary, Crystal River Middle, Crystal River High, Lecanto Middle, and Hernando Elementary. His legacy as a teacher, coach, and mentor lives on in the countless lives he touched.

From 1980 to 1992, Nick served as a Citrus County Commissioner, demonstrating his deep commitment to the community he loved. He was a proud member of the 5th Street Church of Christ in Crystal River, where he worshipped faithfully and shared his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Nick found joy in the outdoors – whether hunting, fishing, coaching, or simply taking a walk. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to family and community will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Virginia "Ginger" Bryant; his children, Nicholas Bryant III, Alice Harrell, and Beverly Tidwell; nine grandchildren, Ashton Monday, Alexus Castro, Rachel Bryant, Christina Tidwell, Nicole Bryant, Frederick Tidwell III, Dwayne Harrell Jr., Amy Bryant, and Hope Bryant; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Mickey Bryant, Alice Sallman, and Randy Bryant. Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Florene Bryant, and siblings Marietta Bryant and William "Bill" Bryant. A viewing will be held at Strickland Funeral Home in Crystal River on Saturday, November 1, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m.

All who knew and loved Nick are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.

I was a young man of 31 when I went to work for Nick Bryant and the Citrus County Commission in 1981. I left in 1987 having experienced a lifetime of learning and lessons in that short period of time and a great respect for the Commissioners I worked with. Nick loved his family, his God and his community, Nick and his wonderful wife Ginger devoted much of their life in service to the people of Citrus County and always with a smile on their face. After I left the County Nick and I stayed in touch on and off. We went to a couple of Gator football games together and lunch once in a while. I just couldn't let this opportunity pass without recognizing what a fine man Nick Bryant was.
