Phyllis Dick Obituary

Phyllis A. Dick, 98 of Lecanto, FL transitioned peacefully to eternal life on July 7, 2018. Phyllis was a born in Morton, MN on October 6, 1919, to Vern and Marie Soltau and raised in the small town of Sauk Centre, MN.
She attended Hamline-Asbury Nursing School in Minneapolis graduating in 1941. She served during WWII in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps from July 1942 to May 1946, training corpsmen while stationed in the U.S. and also working in the wards. She was promoted to first lieutenant in June 1944; within six months she was on her way overseas, sailing abroad the Red Cross ship St. Olaf from Brooklyn Naval Yard to the central Pacific islands of Guam and Saipan. Her highest rank was Captain.
She met her husband, Frederick G. Dick who served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater during WWII. They married in 1948 in MN and had three children. They moved to Westport, Connecticut in the 1950's where Fred became a teacher.
They retired to St. Petersburg, FL in 1974 and attended Garden of Peace Lutheran Church. Phyllis moved to Lecanto in 2009 to be closer to her daughter Marilyn D. Felmer and son-in-law, Richard M. Felmer. Phyllis also has a daughter, Katherine M. Barry of Ridgefield, CT, and a son, Lynn Robert Dick, of Carlsbad, CA.
Phyllis worked at various times in CT as a Nurse and at St. Pete General Hospital, in St. Petersburg. Her interests include signing in the choir, oil painting, bridge, and love of football, especially, the MN Vikings.
Phyllis is predeceased by her husband Fred, her younger brother, LeRoy Soltau and her son, Lynn Robert Dick.
Phyllis leaves behind her daughters, Katherine M. Barry of Ridgefield, CT, and Marilyn D. Felmer of Lecanto, FL, and Richard M. Felmer, son-in-law.
Mrs. Dick will be laid to rest with her husband at Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg with full military honors.
