Roger M. Hoyt, 78, of Brooklyn, NY passed away at home on June 12, 2023.
Born and raised in New York City, the son of Irving and Jeannette (Schonhaut) Hoyt, Roger had also lived in Nassau, NY, Orange, NY, Pittsburg, PA, Akron, OH, St. Petersburg, FL, Boca Raton, FL before moving to Citrus County 19 years ago.
He graduated from Aviation High thinking he wanted to fly, but ended up in the National Guard. His professional career began in 1965 at John Hancock as an Agent, but he continued to rise in the company from sales to Regional Supervisor to Agency Manager by 1977. Throughout his career he earned 26 Honor Club Awards and qualified for 15 President Trophies. He was Charter Member of the Master's Club for elite Managers and served as the President and Vice President of the Managerial Association of John Hancock. He retired as General Manager for Modern Woodman.
Most of all Roger (Papa/Pops) loved his family. His retirement was spent being a one-of-a-kind grandparent involved with as many of the grandchildren's activities as possible. He also had a passion for good food (Lobster), watching baseball (Go Rays!), staying up to date on politics (reading the paper every day) and enjoying days at the beach. When things got tough, he would give you one of his favorite Vince Lombardi quotes or just simply say "It's only Rock and Roll!"
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 39 years, Sandra Hoyt; his children: Sean Hoyt of St. Petersburg, Laura (Dan) Sullivan of Hernando, Todd Hoyt of St. Petersburg, Allison (Michael) Klein Monroe, of NY and Abby Hoyt of NY, NY, his grandchildren: Brianna McCoy, Austin Klein, Shandyl Klein, Jacob Sullivan, Morde Klein, Kelley Sullivan, Sam Klein, Shlima Klein and Chase Hoyt, siblings: Harvey (Jan) Hoyt and Joleen (Scott) Karson as well as many other nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family will be having a private celebration of life, at a later date.

In November 1971 was my first day at John Hancock. I got to the office early. Roger came in and sat down with me. He was a sales manager. He and I talked about me and what I have done prior to this. I was nervous and he helped. We were friends all these years. We would call each other a few times a year especially in March as it was his Bday and my wife´s Bday. I am very sad that he passed away. He was a caring person, loved his family. I am going to miss our calling each other. RIP my friend.
