Sean Andrew Martin, age 16, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. Sean was born to Lara and Robert Martin in Saint Augustine, Florida. Born an "Army Brat" (like his mother), Sean lived in Florida and Virginia before moving to Texas in 2011.
Sean always excelled in school and was a Junior at Johnson High School. He enjoyed reading books and listening to all kinds of music. While attending Tejeda Middle School he surprised his parents by taking up the trombone and ultimately becoming part of the Honors Band that won several awards. Sean loved to travel and spend time outdoors, hiking, biking, swimming, and camping. He adored all kinds of animals, especially his two cats, Salem and Gizmo, and volunteered his time at the Bulverde Area Humane Society. He was interested in aviation and was considering this as a potential career path.
Sean was active in Scouting and achieved the Arrow of Light Award in Cub Scouts and the rank of Life Scout in Boy Scouts. He earned many awards in Scouting and, in 2019, participated in a high adventure camp at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Sean was actively working on completing his Eagle Scout rank.
Sean is survived by his parents; his grandfather, BG Frederick H. Essig (USA, Ret.); aunts Lenée Essig, Patricia Martin, and Vicki Martin; an uncle, Butch Martin; great aunts and uncles Charles and Deborah Citrin, Paul and Shari Bowers, Larry and Peggy Bowers, and Richard Bowers; his "Grandy" Sharon Osborne; and numerous cousins. Sean was preceded in death by his great-grandmother Kathryn Bowers, and grandmothers Bobbie Martin and Elizabeth Lippmann.
A Memorial Service celebrating Sean's life will be held at the Northside Church of Christ, 19818 U.S. Highway 281 North, San Antonio, Texas, at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Following the service, his family will receive guests at the church until 3:30 PM.
To honor Sean's memory, his family plans to complete his Eagle Scout project supporting the Bulverde Area Humane Society. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support Sean's Eagle project at https://www.gofundme.com/f/honoring-sean-martin-and-his-eagle-scout-project.
