Velma Idyl Janzer, age 95, passed away on December 7, 2025, in Inverness.
The Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Inverness, 550 S. Pleasant Grove Road, Inverness, FL 34452. Dr. Byron Brown will officiate. Those who wish may honor her memory with donations to the First Baptist Church Deacon Benevolence Fund.
Born on November 24, 1930, in Ft. Myers, FL, to Joseph and Leona Norris, she moved to Inverness in 1986 from Tampa, where she had enjoyed a long and respected career as a bank vice president. A long-time member of First Baptist Church of Inverness, Velma was known for her artistry in support of church functions. In addition to being an artist, she was an amazing cook, baker, cake decorator, and landscaper. She enjoyed travel, Buccaneer football, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 70 years, John A. Janzer, and by her sister Dorothy Velliquette. Velma is survived by her daughter, Karen Ott of Inverness; two grandsons, Alan Ott (Samantha) of Oviedo and Nathan Ott (Sarah) of Dalton, GA; three cherished great-grandchildren – Adelaide, Rosalind and Jonathan Ott; her brother, Larry Norris (Debbie) of Lebanon, TN; nieces and nephews, Kim Koch of Sarasota.
Arrangements are under the care of the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes.
