Winston Charles Pitman, of Hernando, FL, passed on November 20, 2021, at Citrus Memorial Hospital. He was born in Missouri to Floyd and Ada Pitman on March 9, 1939. He studied broadcasting at the University of Columbia and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.
Winston, "commonly known as Charlie to many", began building a widely diverse resume early in life by playing the lead in school musicals due to his fine tenor voice. At 14 he had the opportunity to try out for the popular Ted Mack Amateur Hour, and at 16 had formed his own band and was performing locally around Missouri. This continued in college and his band was once selected to be the lead-in for a Tina Turner Concert.
Winston's career path included owning his own A/C leasing business in the Chicago area to forming his own Financial Planning/Investment company in Clearwater. It was in his 40's that Winston began to investigate and attempt to understand the disease of addiction and realize the millions of people whose lives were damaged and destroyed because of it. The realization resulted in his starting a daily radio show called "Feel Free" in which he interviewed individuals who told their personal stories. A few well known individuals he interviewed were Larry Gatlin, Diane Schuur, and Tipper Gore. The show ran for three years, but Winston's dedication and commitment to helping others recover never ceased.
Winston is survived by Sally Metzger, his partner and friend of five years. He was very proud of his two sons, Winston (FL) and Michael (MO) and often referred to their wives, Stacey and Melissa, as his "daughters". His three grandchildren, Cassis, Brandon and Sierra, along with their grandmother, Sandy Pitman held a very special place in his heart. Other survivors are those many individual whom he mentored in AA over a period of 39 years that he truly loved.
A Celebration of Life will be at the Club Recovery on Anvil Road in Hernando, on Saturday, December 11th. Lunch will be at 12 Noon, and the opportunity to remember Winston till 2:00 P.M. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
