Clara ANGELICH Obituary

ANGELICH

Clara, nee Kadarjan, was born in 1936 in Gorky, Russia (now known as Nizhny Novgorod, Russia). She moved to Yugoslavia and attended the Academy of Music in Belgrade, where she met her husband, Bora Angelich. The two immigrated to the United States in 1965, sponsored by her relatives who lived in Detroit. Clara taught many students at the Toedtman School of Music, the Wyoming Fine Arts Center, and from her homes in Glendale and Sharonville. Her most beloved student was her son, Nicholas Angelich, whom she began teaching at a very young age. She was Nicholas's first piano teacher from when he was five until the age of nine. He went on to study at the Toedtman School of Music under John Toedtman and then with Elizabeth Pridonoff. When Nicholas was thirteen years old, he and Clara moved to France so that he could study at the Conservatory of Music in Paris. She remained there with him for many years to make sure that he was properly cared for until he launched his solo career and accepted a teaching position at the same Conservatory of Music where he had previously studied. Clara was the inspiration behind Nicholas's love of piano. Due to Clara's love and support, he has taken his passion and built an exceptional profession that includes performing with the world's top orchestras as well as an extensive recording career. Clara is survived not only by her son, but her nephew Nicholas (Tina) Cadarean and niece Nathalie (David) Morin and Nathalie's two children. There will be a Memorial Service held at the Normal Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery on Monday December 22, 2014, at 3 PM. Father John Heim will officiate the service, and Nicholas Angelich will play selected works in remembrance of his mother.

Driving Bora to his doctors hold fond memories for me and during those drives I learned of his family. Clara and Bora were in separate rooms at the nursing home so I never had the pleasure of meeting Clara. My mom died the same year as Clara and I know the void I feel and send my condolences to her family and friends. Bora was a joy to be with I miss him. I have visited both of their resting places at the cemetery and know they are together in heaven. RIP Clara and Bora

My deepest condolences on the death of Clara Angelich. She was a formidable woman who loved and was devoted to her son, Nicholas. It is with sadness and regret that I will not be able to be at her memorial, as we are in Arizona until January, however she will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I send to Nicholas my warmest wishes and know that his music will be the greatest gift to Clara's memory.

My late husband and I had many fond memories of Clara. She was generous, loving and a good cook. Most significantly Clara glowed with pride when telling us about Nicholas. Our condolences to Nicholas and the family. Rachael Rosen
