David Cook Obituary

David M. Cook

Cincinnati - David M. Cook, 67, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away on December 14th, 2020. David left us knowing that he was loved and having found peace in his future with God.

David's two greatest loves in life were his work and his children. For over 40 years, David devoted his professional career to giving voice, counsel, and representation to those persons in pursuit of social and economic justice as an attorney in Cincinnati, OH. He served the ABA in multiple capacities related to Labor and Employee Benefits Law and was a Charter Fellow of the American College of Employment Benefits Council and a Fellow of the College of Employment and Labor Lawyers.

He was immensely proud of his children, Elizabeth & Forrest, their accomplishments, careers, and the families they have created. His one wish was to become a grandfather and he was able to virtually meet his two infant grandsons before his passing.

He dedicated his life to serving others, whether it be through his work representing Union employees, serving the Episcipal Church, and through his involvement in various community organizations.

He will be greatly missed in the Labor Law field, by his community, and by his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Elizabeth Walda (Kirk) and Forrest Cook (Leigh), his grandsons, Percy Cook and Dean Walda, and his siblings, Arthur Cook and Alicia Cook.

A memorial service will be held virtually through the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer on Saturday, January 2nd at 11am EST. Link to access services are below.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati or the Southern Poverty Law Center, and demonstrate your love for others by wearing a mask.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. I was just thinking about him the other day. My friend is gone but not forgotten.

My heart and prayers are extended to the entire Cook family. I served on the Executive Board of the A.E.I.F. In Middletown. We considered David as our General Counsel. He provided effective leadership to our union during difficult times. David was one of us! I remember him bringing Forest to the Union meetings.

A great guy and a champion of the little guy. He will be missed but not forgotten. I was a classmate and always remember him throughout the years as the lawyer who used his legal training to help the people address their grievances against the employers who harmed them. A life well lived.

I remember Dave as a very kind and caring person from our time in law school. It was so clear how much he loved his children and was eagerly awaiting grandchildren. I am so glad he was able to see his grandsons. Bev Rhodes.

As a law school classmate of Dave’s I’ll always remember his infectious smile, his overarching passion for the law and justice for the little guy, and his kind and big heart. He will be missed, but not forgotten.... Bill Morelli
