MURRAY
David A. Murray passed away Saturday July 11, 2015 at age 91. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Loretta Murray; his sons Martin Murray (m. Phyllis Jackson Murray, former daughter-in-law Jeanette McGurk Murray), Donald Murray (m. Cindy MacFarland Murray); and his grandchildren David Murray, Catherine Murray, Annamarie Murray, Jake Jackson, Allanah Jackson, and Eric MacFarland. He was preceded by his son Brian David (d. 1964). David was born in New Jersey and raised in Stornoway, Scotland before joining the British Merchant Marine at age 17. After experiencing many battles at sea and surviving multiple sinkings in the North Atlantic, David reclaimed his American citizenship in 1942, enlisting in the US Navy for the duration of WWII. He settled in Chicago, married in 1956 and started his career as a CPS teacher. David retired in 1985 and spent his time as an avid reader and tournament lawn bowler. He and Loretta moved to Cincinnati to live with family in 2006. It has been said, he may not have remembered everyone he met but everyone who met him remembered him. David's daily presence will be missed dearly and his memory will live on in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Honor Flight Tri-State is requested. http://www.honorflighttristate.org/ . A memorial service will be held in Cincinnati at a future date. Interment in Chicago will be private. www.springgrove.org

Long long ago I attended Hurley school in Chicago. Mr. Murray was the home mechanics teacher and what I remember about one class in particular was how he told us ( all girls class) to take a part a toilet so we would not have to call our husbands! Obviously before the days of womens lib. The best part about remembering Mr. Murray was the romance with Miss Egan. Just imagine the 7th and 8th grade girls and how excited they were about a romance at Hurley. I finished 8th grad and my dad was transferred to Ohio. I stayed in touch with them for a short time and went to their house for lunch on one of my Christmas vacations. I loved Mr. Murray and Mrs. Murray aka Miss Egan great teachers. So sorry for the loss, have many fond memories of him and in 7th grade with Miss Egan. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
