Elizabeth Jane, Ph.D. (aka "Betty") passed away October 21, 2013 at age 90. Pioneer woman theologian and lifelong feminist, Betty was a founding member of NOW who boldly spoke out against the oppression of women in society and in the Catholic Church. She also worked tirelessly as a peace activist and received the Rev. Maurice McCrackin Peace and Justice Award in 1998. Deeply passionate about social justice and environmental issues, Betty experienced an inseparable bond with all of nature. She became an ardent advocate of animal rights and a vegan over 30 years ago. As recently as 2008, she taught a groundbreaking course on Theology and Animals at Xavier University. A memorial event to honor this extraordinary woman will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm at St. Bernard Parish Annex, 745 Derby Avenue, Cincinnati 45232.
