I just learned of his passing August 14, 2015. I hope for his family the many messages written give them some relief. I was a student of his back in 1978. I was a mediocre student until meeting Mr. Harpe who challenged me to do better, and changed the way I approached school. It was a major turning point for me. God rest his soul.

Always looked forward to your visits at the tavern in Magnet (Rono' s Landing). I learned so much about Perry County's history from you-once a teacher always a teacher. I will miss you!

I didn't have him for a teacher, however, he was also a GREAT friend, neighbor & happy hour host. The community of Magnet will never be the same and I miss him very much. I feel so blessed to have had him for a friend and also blessed to know ALL his family.

I can only endorse what everyone has stated, he made a difference in our lives, I have always remembered his quotes and rules. Covedale school had the best teachers, there were many more that shaped me.

Mr. Harpe changed my life's path in the 6th grade, way back in 1965. He motivated me and was just exactly what I needed at that point. He was a blessing to me and so many other kids. If only all teachers could be like him? I'm so happy I was able to see him this last year and tell him how grateful I am.

When you think back to the teachers who inspired you most Gary Harpe comes to mind by everyone who ever attended Covedale. He truly was gifted with the ability to speak to and educate young minds.

Gary wanted every one of his students to succeed. I can only dream that our education system had his genuine love for everyone and not a selected few. He deviated from education committees protocol that if followed would keep the class "dumbed down" (common core federal government approved education ). He "stuck his neck out" for all of us. In particular , I will remember him for the vocabulary words and good grades to encourage all and not to prejudge on a bell curve. Terry Puening

At the end of the trail of life, perhaps what matters most is what we did for others.Gary did so much! I was in Gary's sixth grade class at Covedale Elementary for the 62-63 school year and can say he inspired so many of us towards educational achievement.Thank you for a life that helped so many others! Mr. Harpe changed my life in the 6th grade. He really motivated me to work hard and I've never had a better language or history teacher. I've aced so many papers due to the writing skills I learned in his class. He inspired so many of us. My sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Harpe was a teacher that I have ALWAYS remembered over the years. I had him for 6th grade in the mid 70's my sister also, the year before me. I can still hear his laugh and remember how passionate he was about teaching. Rest in peace Mr. Harpe you meant a lot to thousands of 6th graders and Im proud to have been one of them.

What an amazing teacher...he managed to reach EACH student's potential and encourage us to develop our natural talents. His passion will live on through all of us who were fortunate enough to have him at Covedale. Swift journey, Mr. Harpe. You are much loved.

Mr Harpe was my 6th grade teacher at Covedale school in Cincinnati in 1967 or 1968.. He was a very good teacher and treated students with utmost respect. He was admired by all the students. So sorry to hear of his passing.
