Dr. Harley D. Lindquist, died February 4, 2017 at age 89 surrounded by loving family, while recovering from a brief illness. Harley D. Lindquist, M.D., loving husband of the late Patricia M. Lindquist (nee McMahon). Beloved father of H. D. Alan (Wantana) Lindquist and Gretchen (Wayne) Barker. Dear grandfather of Harley Alan and Ganjana Anachai Lindquist, and Songee, Nate and Kurt Barker. Preceded in death by brothers Claude Alan and Donald Kenneth Lindquist. Harley D. Lindquist, was born in Jamestown New York, where he grew up hunting and fishing with his father, brothers and uncles. He graduated from Alfred University and the University at Buffalo Medical School. He served his country as a physician in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He went on to a long career as a clinical and forensic pathologist, practicing in New York City, Athens Georgia, and several other locations, prior to relocating to Mansfield Ohio. He practiced for many years at Mansfield General Hospital, was elected Coroner of Richland County. He shied away from public speaking, but after smoking for decades, and learning of the scientific proof to the dangers of smoking he quit and became a strong advocate, speaking on the subject of quitting smoking. In Mansfield he was active in several groups, including the symphony board, the Rotary, where he was a past president, and the yacht club. He was physically active his entire life, working out at the YMCA, playing squash, sailing and hiking. He hiked several sections of the Appalachian and Long trails. He loved traveling and traveled to all 50 states, many national parks, and several countries around the world. He greatly enjoyed sampling different foods, watching baseball, listening to music, and reading. He was avid outdoorsman, camper, fisherman, a HAM radio operator, woodworker, painter, beekeeper, home brewer and certified beer judge. He was renowned for his jokes and sense of humor, and loved nothing more than spending time with his family. When he retired from the Coroner's office, he moved to Florida, but even in retirement he prided himself in being a life long learner. He took grand rounds and participated in mortality reviews to keep up his professional skills and help the younger generation. He returned to Ohio, moving to Cincinnati with his wife in 2007, where they lived the rest of their lives with his son and his son's family.
