BLACK

Harrison Black, M.D., 94, died peacefully in Rockport, Maine May 10, 2013. Born March 26, 1919 to Robert L. and Anna S. Black of Cincinnati. Brother of Judge Robert L.Black and David D. Black who predeceased him, and Frances B. Turner of Mariemont. Married over 60 years to Gertrude D. Black who died in 2011. Father of William H. Black of Oxford, MS, Judge Timothy S. Black of Cincinnati, and Nancy B. Carhart of Washington, ME. Grandfather of Abigail C. and Emily H. Black. Dr. Black was a nationally renowned thoracic surgeon and pioneer in open heart surgery at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, while serving as a faculty member of the Harvard Medical School. When he retired from medicine, Dr. Black researched, wrote and published two volumes of family genealogy. A graduate of Deerfield Academy, Princeton University, and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Black was also an avid and accomplished sailor. He was a founding member of the Biddeford Pool Yacht Club where he served as Commodore for twenty years. A memorial service will be held in Biddeford Pool later this summer.

Thank you Dr. Black for saving my life, and for all the hours you spent away from your family for me! I´m 65 now and I never thought I´d make it past 18, but with the grace of God and you, I´m still standing! I´m forever grateful! Rest easy kind sir, Cindy
