I think of Jim often. Every time I recall coming to PG. Knowing if it were not for Jim I never would have been hired, never met my wife, never had the family which has Made my life what it is.

Jim was my boss at P&G. He was the most caring, straightforward person I ever had as a manager. He taught me much about management and about idealism. He was a lovely person and led by example. He laughed at my contrary ways and congratulated me on my successes. We were blessed to have him.

Jim was my neighbor. Although much older than me, Jim would finish shoveling snow in his driveway and come an help me with mine. He and Patty were fantastic neighbors. I will miss both of them.

Jim was one of those special people who comes along very rarely in our lives. A gentleman of the highest order, he exuded warmth, compassion, kindness, spirituality, inquisitiveness (his business side), great logic, a high sense of morality, parental and civic duty. I shall miss him sorely at our future family gatherings. ~ Ellen Everman Deaton

My deepest condolences to Jim's family. May the sadness you feel now soon be replaced with happy memories of good times spent with him.

Jim was my first manager at P&G and I can honestly say that I would not have had as successful a career there without his mentoring and guidance. Jim took every interaction with people as a coaching opportunity. He was devoted to helping people and was, without doubt, one of the most compassionate, caring, and honest individuals I have ever known. Having Jim as a boss and a friend was truly a life blessing.

Jim was the kindest, most appreciative man I think I have ever met. Never complained, and was always paying compliments to our staff for any little thing they did for him. I will miss having our conversations about anything and everything. He was my friend, and I'll miss him dearly. Rest now, Mr. C, and be at peace.

Jim and Patty were our next door neighbors for many years, and I can say unequivocally that he was the best neighbor that I ever had. Jim was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. We all knew of his outstanding academic and professional history, but Jim was always humble and rarely spoke of his many notable achievements. He was a great role model for our kids, and was willing to share sage advice and give encouragement. All who knew Jim will miss his gentle and intelligent smile, and his boundless energy and determination to get things done right.

May 23, 2017

I am deeply saddened for your loss. I worked for Jim in the Commercial Production Department at P&G. Without Jim's guidance and support I would not have had the long and fulfilling career at P&G that I did.

Knowing and meeting Jim will always stand as one of the most important moments of my life.

I and my family owe Jim so much. He was my first interviewer at P&G when I came there in 1963. He gave me caring and pointed advice after that interview without which I never would have been hired by P&G---or gone on to meet my wife--or had my wonderful family.

Through all the years that followed, I admired his character. He was a role model for me. I attended his retirement party to let all in attendance know how much he had meant to me. His memory will live on
