I was not a "coworker", he was my boss but I miss him like a father. None of the remaining family can know how much I miss him. To me he was straight as an arrow, compassionate, a wonderful boss and an unbelievable friend as was his wife. For example. Jack came to my house to deliver the insurance papers that I needed to sign so that my husband, riddled with cancer, would be covered when I became an employee. I fought like a dog to continue to be employed by the company that purchased J.A.Kindel and managed to survive but, in some ways, it distanced me from Jack and his wife whom I cherished deeply. The last time I saw him I was at a next door neighbor's and he was trying to do his "walk" and having a very hard time. I invited him and his wife to dinner (he and his wife had taken me and friends to dinner previously) but he was too down to accept. It broke my heart and I have never forgotten that last time I saw him. I am still surviving at the owner company but not a day goes by that I don't think of Jack, Joyce and my husband who ultimately succumbed to cancer. To close, I think I need to admit that I truly loved this man whose character was formed in St. Bernard (God strike me if I am mistaken) and Price Hill, OH was broad enough to accept me, from South Bend, IN via Sarasota, FL, at a time when Price Hill, Cincinnati was much more closed to non-natives. God bless his soul and those of his wife and offspring. With nothing but love, Emilia Read

My husband worked for J.A. Kindel for years and was very fond of Mr. Berning. He kept in touch off and on over the years but he's always been special to our family.

Dear Joyce,
We are so sorry to read of Jack's passing. We're in Alabama, trying to avoid the snow & cold, or we'd be there. Please know our hearts go out to you, and all of your family. You will be remembered in our prayers. Sincerely, Barb & Ed Hayhow
