Martha Dorsey Obituary
Union Twp. - Martha Harris Dorsey was born January 17, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jonathan and Ruth Ogle Coleman. She passed away Thursday, November 22, 2018 at the Forest Hills Care Center at the age of 88. Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Dorsey. Martha is the loving mother of Olen (Reyna) Harris, John (Lisa) Harris, Linda (Rick) Bauer, Sue (Gene) Combs and Rob (Renea) Dorsey. She is the sister of the late George Coleman, Jim Coleman, Herman Coleman and Phoebe Lindsley. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Martha Harris Dorsey was born to be a public servant and has always been active serving the community where she lived. She worked for Clermont County Human Services from 1967 to 1985. In a relatively short period of time, she became the Director of Human Services for the county. She first ran for Clermont County Commissioner in 1986 to fill a vacant seat formerly held by Commissioner Robert Croswell. She became the first female commissioner and served in that leadership role for 4 consecutive terms of 16 years from 1987 to 2002. During her time as commissioner Martha was recognized for her leadership and character by the Clermont County Community Chest, the Ohio Legislature, the National Association of Regional Councils, the Clermont/Warren Industry Council, the Clermont County YMCA Board of Directors, the Salvation Army, and the Altrusa Club. She was also the former President of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Regional Council of Governments and the Former President for the state of Ohio County Commissioners. In her honor today, the Clermont County Chamber gives the Martha Dorsey Pacesetter Award, which honors a public servant who has genuine concern for the welfare of Clermont County and demonstrated outstanding leadership, character, and citizenship. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the E.C. Nurre Funeral Home, 177 W. Main St. (St. Rt. 125), Amelia, Ohio. The funeral service will follow Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment Tate Township Cemetery, Bethel, Ohio.

Martha and Bob were dear friends of my parents, Carroll and Carolyn Morford. Martha was an inspiration to me and guided me into government and political involvement. I regret that I cannot attend her funeral today, but please know of my prayers. May she rest in peace.

What an amazing, inspiring leader in our community! Martha was instrumental in Child Focus , Inc. becoming a Head Start grantee to serve preschool children living in poverty in Clermont County, a program that has served thousands of children since 1982!

Martha Dorsey was a true inspiration to women that hard work can carry you through an amazing career of service to others. I worked for Martha and truly enjoyed every interaction I had with her in Clermont County Government. She was truly a class act.
