Mary Laverne (Gunkel), 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Beloved wife of the late William C. Lysaght Jr. for 23 years and of the late Carl J. Lamping for 30 years. Laverne was born in Covington KY, lived in Pleasant Ridge OH for 56 years, returning to Covington in 2007. She is mourned by her children Debbi Hill (late Rob Hill), Sharon Ballman (late Mike Ballman), Judy Bowling (Jim), Dan Lysaght (Julie), Carol Lamping (Paul), Ron Lamping, Sharon Moran (Pat) and the late Billy and Timmy Lysaght. Laverne is dearly missed by her grandchildren: Laura (Dan), Jason, Brian (Jackie), Jen (Craig), Michelle (Jack), Jimmy, Ryan, Joe, Cyndi, Trisha, Bridget (Ed), Molly and great-grandchildren Heath, Ian, Ali, Zach, Jenna, Reece and Mackenzie. She is also mourned by brothers Earl (Ella), Mel (Mary Ellen), and Frank (Rosemary) Gunkel and sister-in-law An Gunkel (late Paul) and was preceded in death by brother Clifford (late Thelma) Gunkel, and many nieces and nephews. Laverne was a manager for United Dairy Farmers in Norwood for 7 years. She worked at the University of Cincinnati for 11 years before retiring in 1988 and was named one of their Women of the Year. She will be remembered as a loving and generous woman and active volunteer at Nativity parish, the American Cancer Society and the Sycamore Senior Center. Visitation will be Thursday, June 2, 5:30-8pm at the Gilligan Funeral Home 8225 Montgomery Road. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 3, 10:30 am at Nativity Church, 5935 Pandora Avenue, interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
