COYLE
Max Edward, 96, of Cincinnati, passed away Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015. Retired School Teacher with the Cincinnati Public Schools with 36 years of service. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Marjorie Jane Buehren Coyle. Survived by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Ave. Friends may call at the Funeral Home one hour prior to the services, with burial at Spring Grove Cemetery. www.springgrove.org

This morning Kathy Wallace and I were just speaking about Mr and Mrs Coyle and how there were some of out most favorite teachers from 70 years ago. Hartwell and Woodward. They were devoted to each other. She was very proper and he shown us a stern but friendly smile smile every day. They both impacted our lives so much.

To his family, my warmest sympathies are extended. I too was privileged to have Mr. Coyle as my biology teacher at Woodward. Not my favorite subject, but he always made it interesting. (Thank goodness he didn't know my lab partner dissected my worm for me...thanks Mike D'Angelo.) What I remember the most is what a nice, dedicated teacher he was. I am thankful I had the opportunity of knowing Mr. Coyle and wish there were more teachers like him today.

I have such fond memories of having both Mr. & Mrs. Coyle as teachers. Mrs. Coyle at Hartwell Elementary in the 60's and Mr. Coyle at Woodward.

Such an unforgettable person. Mrs. Coyle was my teacher at Hartwell for my 5th and 6th grade. Even though I did not have Mr. Coyle as a teacher
at Woodward he was still a presence in my everyday life there with his "hi friend" as we passed in the hall between classes. He taught my brother science and my mother drivers ed. I have stayed in touch with them over the years as they both are very special people in my life. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Reading messages from his former students is heartwarming and reinforces what we in the family always knew -- Max was a terrific role model, teacher and mentor for students, for family and for friends and neighbors. Whenever I think of Max, words like 'honorable', 'gentleman', 'loving and devoted husband', and of course 'teacher' always immediately come to mind. The lessons he taught us, whether in the classroom or from real live experiences, will live with us forever.
Max was always so proud of his years of service with the Navy during WWII, of the fact that he started for UC football all 4 years on both offense and defense, and most of all of the love of his life, Marge.
Thank you Max. It's been an honor and a pleasure to have grown up with you and Marge in my life. Your memory will live on forever.

Goodbye friend. Max Coyle was indeed one of the good guys at New Woodward. He was much more than a science teacher; he was a role model and friend to everyone. I am forever in his debt. Rest in peace sir.

"Uncle" Max was a fine man. He perfectly balanced being gentle and strong, good natured and forthright, fun-loving and upstanding. We will all miss him and honor him whenever we teach and learn, live, love, and laugh. Condolences to Aunt Marge and family. He smiles down on us all now.

Mr. Coyle was my "homeroom" teacher - he managed to herd us all together each morning in the back of the auditorium before the day began. His infectious smile was always there - but it was clear that you weren't going to get away with anything - especially in the cafeteria where I remember him keeping the peace. Like Larry Cunnigham's comments, I will never forget the "Hi, friend" booming greeting each day. (Class of '61)

How lucky were we (my wife and I) to have the Coyle's come into our lives. Mr. Coyle as a teacher at New Woodward. And Mrs. Coyle that taught with my wife at Hartwell School.

I was fortunate to have Mr. Coyle in the '69 - 70' school year for science. He was incredibly patient with the 'knuckle-heads' in the class and was always willing to give extra attention to those who were trying, but struggling. Always wore short sleeve white dress shirt w/ a bow tie. Mr. Coyle also visited the veterans hospital regularly, never forgetting those who served. A fine man, a life well-lived. RIP.

I was in Mr. Coyle's science class and gym classes at Woodward in 1954-58, when Woodward had just opened...he was a young teacher...I remember him being a big man who was always fair and kind to his students. Thank you Mr. Coyle for your service to our country and the many years you served your students. I send sincere condolences to Mrs. Coyle and family.

I never had Mr. Coyle as a teacher, but always had a lot of respect for him. I'll never forget how he would stand by his class room door between classes. He was the enforcer. Brings back great memories.

Mr Coyle was my home room teacher and I never think of the Woodward lunchroom that I don't remember his smiling face and friendly ways. He was one of the really good guys. .....

Mr. Coyle was such a friendly teacher at Woodward High School in the 60s when I knew him. He was my 8th or 9th grade science teacher. He was a big guy with a big heart. Mrs. Coyle was my 6th grade teacher at Hartwell Elementary School. We did a lot of sentence diagraming. I remember her fondly.

I remember Mr. Coyle from Woodward. Although I did not have him as a teacher, I remember he was very friendly and approachable. He would always talk to students in the morning before class when we were out in the halls. His service to our country and his dedication as an educator are greatly appreciated.
