Norman Clarence Haas died on February 19, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was the husband of Ruth (Ramsdell) Haas for 52 years. His daughters are Monica Phelps and Susan Drago (Steve). Grandchildren are Ryan Allen Phelps, Kathleen Rose Phelps, Derek Charles Drago and Nathan Elmer Drago. His parents were Norman Alfred and Kathleen (Tobias) Haas. Brother of Alfred Haas of Yucca Valley, California; Charles Haas of Clovis, California; and Patricia Hutchinson of Fort Mohave, Arizona. Norman served in the Navy aboard submarines and destroyers. He made two cruises to the Far East and was honorably discharged in January 1961. Norman worked as a Project Engineer for 29 years for Ralston Purina and then General Mills. After his retirement, he enjoyed travelling, especially out west. He volunteered at Mercy Hospital Mt. Airy. He spent ten years teaching math to Hispanics at Su Casa. However, he said the most enjoyable time was spent with his beloved family. We are grateful for the care he received from Anna, Joan and all the employees at Wellspring Legacy Court. We would also like to thank Queen City Hospice for all of their knowledge and care. I worked as a bilingual registered nurse at Mercy Mt. Airy Hospital with the Vidas Preciosas program. Norm was a volunteer and the two of us worked in Obstetrics with Latina women. Norm really enjoyed talking in Spanish to the patients, helping them schedule appointments and assisting them in finding their way around the hospital. The two of us were a great team and after the labor and delivery was closed, Norm started volunteering as a tutor at the Su Casa Hispanic Center where I was also a volunteer. Our two families developed a lasting friendship over those years and he will surely be missed. Rest In Peace, my friend.

Norm was a very nice and caring gentleman, he loved his wife and girls, every time you would see him he would just smile, Norm you will be missed!!!
