Rankin GIBSON Obituary
GIBSON Rankin M., age 84 of Galloway, OH. Died Monday, June 4, 2001 at Arbors West, West Jefferson, OH. Judge, Lawyer, Teacher, Arbitrator and Public servant. He graduated from the University of Missouri, St. Paul College of Law and George Washington University. He began his law practice in Unionville, MO and then became a claims attorney for T.H. Mastin and Company. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Afterwards, he became an attorney for the Veterans Administration adn an enforcement attorney for the National Wage Stabilization Board. He was an associate professor of law at the University of Toledo and partner in the Toledo, OH law firm of DiSalle, Green, Haddad and Lynch. He was legal assistant to Governor Michael DiSalle. He was Ohio Director of Commerce and a member of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio. He served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio. He was adjunct professor at the Capital University Law School for 35 years. He was a retired partner of the Columbus, OH law firm of Lucas, Prendergast, Albright, Gibson and Newman. He was a respected arbitrator. He was past president of the Lucas County Bar Association, the Columbus Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association and the Central Ohio Chapter of the Industrial relations Research Association and served as chairman of Region 9 of the National Academy of Arbitrators. He was a member of the Columbus Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Americal Judicature Society, Industrial Relations Research Association, National Health Lawyers Association, Ohio Health Care Association, National Academy of Arbitrators and American Civil Liberties Union. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eloise. He is survived by son Phillip A. Gibson of Galloway, OH and daughter, Barbara M. Miller of Fenton, MO; three grandchildren; Sally, Alexander and Susan Miller; brothers, Robert (Nancy) and Everett (Bonnie) Gibson; sister; Millie (Paul). Several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. In accordance with Judge Gibson's wishes; there will be no visitation or memorial service. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Rankin M. Gibson LLM Scholarship Fund of Law, at the University of Missouri-Columbia or the Americal Civil Liberties Union or to a charity of one's choice.
