Rebecca SCHROEDER Obituary

SCHROEDER

Rebecca Ellen "Becky" Schroeder passed away peacefully at 6:15 a.m. Friday, January 2 at Hospice of Hamilton one day short of her 72nd birthday. She was born on January 3, 1943 in Wilmington, NC to Luther L. and Mary Jean (Ross) Beaty who proceed her in death. Like her father, Becky was a keen observer of people with whom she was quick to befriend and find commonality to form lasting friendships. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bernard Schroeder; her three children, MaryBeth (John Boelter) Schroeder, Matthew (Trisha) Schroeder, and Luke (Chanda) Schroeder; five grandchildren, Cori (Alex Goodwin) Schroeder, Luke Schroeder, Matthew Schroeder, Brennan Schroeder and Hunter Boelter; one great grandchild, Noah Goodwin ; and two brothers, Mark (Alice) Beaty and Tim (Karen) Beaty and their children. Becky worked for the Butler County DD for over 30 years where she displayed her passion as an advocate for the "least of these." She also coordinated the local DD Job Club (later The ARC) for adults with disabilities for over 25 years. In this capacity she endeared herself to the consumers and their families, and her strong voice lent dignity to the lives of many who otherwise would have been cast aside. Becky had an indescribable wackiness and wicked sense of humor that drew others to her and kept things light. She also maintained a stubborn sense of right and wrong, and was not shy to let others know if they crossed her line. However, she could not stand being at odds with anyone and always sought to reconcile her part of any rift and offer quick forgiveness. Becky was a compassionate, free spirited person, who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In a final act of love, Becky has donated her body to University Hospital at UC for medical research. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 400 Nilles Road, Fairfield, OH 45014, at 10 am, January 7th 2015, Father Larry Tharp presiding. A time of remembrance will follow mass at Redeemer Church, 3431 Hamilton Middletown Rd, Hamilton, Ohio 45011. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care Becky received at Hospice and the GI ward at University Hospital. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent in Becky's honor to The Arc of Butler County, 282 N. Fair Ave, Hamilton, Ohio 45011 and the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700, New York, NY 10006.

Not sure what to say?

The world has lost one of the truly great storytellers at least of my lifetime. I have never laughed so hard nor enjoyed other tales more. The obituary was spot one re: her character. She was extremely special. Reunions won't be the same.

Lve to all her special family, Andy

I remember having to call Becky once when she was leading an outing with job club...I could barely hear her over the phone as she was leading a loud happy song on the bus they were traveling on during one of their many memorable trips....I could hear the fun and laugher over the phone and it made me smile, wishing to be there too. She brought so much laughter to others. Always quick to lend and ear, offer guidance and sound advice. And always...the red lipstick... RIP my friend. Sending prayers to all who loved her.

I have many fond and funny memories of dear becky as children in Jamestown. As an adult she was a wonderful example of a life well lived. So glad I could visit with her at the Beaty reunion this year. Peace, cousin dill

Condolences to the Schroeder Family. I have the most wonderful
memories of Becky and me as playmates and best buddies and two
very mischievous little girls in Jamestown, Tn. Becky had the biggest
and genuine compassion for others. A summer highlight for me was seeing
Becky and family at the Beaty Reunion. We easily picked right up where
we left off the year before. Reunions will never be the same. No one can
fill the void of Becky's absence. She meant the world to me, and to many
others.

Becky has touched so many lives. She made such an impact on me and helped me so much when my brother, Ken moved in with us in 1992. She made sure he got into Job Club to be a Party Animal. Ken loves her so much. I'm selfish, I wish she could have been a part of our lives for so much longer. Our prayers go out to her family.

Becky and I were friends at Fairfield High School and spent time in each others homes. We went out on week ends together to a "club" near Northgate Mall. Sorry that I can't remember the name of the club, but Bernie may as this is where they met. The young German boy and the outgoing American girl met ...and so the story goes. Becky and I lost touch during the time of our raising our children, but I did have the opportunity to see her during functions with the Board of MR/DD. She as a facilitator and me as a parent of a son with disabilities.

Please know that the Schroeder family will be in my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.
