I miss your skating update emails, as my
Mom and I still sit here wanting to ask your questions. I loved sitting with you in KC, MO... and I still love your sister Jane

Though two years have passed, I still think of Susan every time I watch a figure skating competition on television. She was and still is missed.

I knew Susan both through Bonanza and figure skating and have a particularly fond memory of meeting her at one of the Bonanza conventions. I loved the Grote Awards and looked forward to televised skating events for the pleasure of searching for (and finding!) her in the audience. She was always kind-hearted and generous in her critiques of my writing, and, of course, I enjoyed hers, as well. No one could portray Shirtless Joe like Susan! I will miss her greatly, and I hope that knowing how broadly she was loved is a comfort to her family.

I have so many great memories of being with my friend, Sue! We were together all through Sts. Peter and Paul Grade School and Regina High School. She visited me in Milwaukee when I went away for college. We camped together as Campfire Girls....rode that bus 100 times to Day Camp, and slept in big old tents at Camp Firefly for overnight camping. Sue and I were always in each other's lives as we grew from little girls to women out on our own. Even though our adult lives took different paths I was always 100% sure that Christmas card would arrive year after year signed SUE. I will always remember you. I'm sad today to learn of your death. Never have we met such an avid sports fan! Not only a fan, but a true repository of all kinds of sports information.
Sue got us involved with the season ticket group of the Cincinnati Reds, for which we will always be grateful. It has been a real positive in our lives (and that of our children and grand children) over the past 38 years.
Thanks, Sue. We'll miss you. There will never be another Sue Grote!

Sue was a wonderful person, full of life and fun. Those of us in the skating-fan world relied on her knowledge and hard work to keep us up to date on events, results, and the universally popular "Grote Awards." Skating - and life - will not be the same without her. We send our deepest condolences and love to the entire Grote family: you have lost a gem and we have all lost a friend.

I was greatly saddened to hear the news of Sue's passing. I will always be grateful to Sue for her generosity of time and spirit in her capacity as President of our condominium board. She worked very hard at making our building a truly wonderful place to live. Sue served her community unselfishly, and she will be greatly missed. Sincerest condolences to Sue's family.

I am so sorry to hear of Susan's passing. I met her on the Bonanarchy Bonanza list. She was such a sweet lady. She will be greatly missed.

I knew Susan through our mutual love of Bonanza in general, Little Joe in particular.
I met her at two of the conventions held at Tahoe and also knew her through us both working on the Bonanza Gold magazine.
She was also a writer of fanfic, another thing we had in common.
I knew Susan to be a decent, caring person and I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing.
I send my condolences to her family
Little Joe forever

I got to know Carla through our mutual love of Bonanza, and I looked forward to the emails she sent out every Monday (except in skating season, lol). She was an amazing person, with tremendous dedication to promoting women's writing. Her website is a gem - after all the work and love she put into it, I hope someone can keep it going in her memory. For her family, know that there are a huge number of us out there who will miss her, too.

A winderful friend who will be sorely missed by all her friends in both the Bonanza and the skating world. The news came as a shock as I only corresponded with her just over a fortnight ago. We spent some great times together on my visits to the US.

I am so sad to see that Susan Grote has passed away. Since meeting her at the Bonanza convention in 1999 I have enjoyed a long distance friendship with Susan, enjoying her bonanza stories and her regular visits to skating championships. RIP Mary.

Tom and I will continue rooting for the Reds as our 'National League Team' as Sue would expect us to do...as Texas Rangers fans. The Rangers were Sue's 'American League Team' and we always hoped for a Rangers - Reds series. It's a new season, maybe this year, as we just emailed a couple weeks ago. There is an Eskimo proverb that says: "Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love our lost ones pours thought and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.' Sue was a shining star in our book!

A wonderful woman who brought joy to so many by sharing her passion for skating with others. I am among those who looked forward to and relished her insights on and knowledge of, the sport of figure skating.
